Prosperous Women Posted on January 5, 2019
In line with our focus on Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Goal 10: Reduced Inequality, we provide the women of Thar with socio-economic opportunities to help them gain financial independence. Khushaal Naari which translates as “Prosperous Woman” is our ode to these women and a chance for them to grow, for Thar Foundation truly believes that none of us can progress if half of us are held back.

“None of us knew the power of a simple stitch before Thar Foundation trained twenty of us, 10 from Thariyo Halepoto and 10 from Senhri Dars, to sew uniforms and different articles of clothing. Now, with our first successful sale to Thar Foundation’s school network and their employee uniforms, we have earned between Rs. 12,000 and 26,000 each. We’re happy to have this additional income for our families and, we hope more orders come in which we can fulfil in the future.”
- Dupatta Bai is part of the Khushaal Naari (Progressive Woman) initiative, a project of Thar Foundation which seeks to empower the females of Thar who remain a resilient force to be reckoned with as true daughters of the Thar soil. In various roles as mothers; sisters; daughters they continue to hold and stitch the social fabric of Thar through their hard work, tenacity and contributions.
